What is JerseyCat?
JerseyCat is the name of the statewide Interlibrary Loan system provided by the New Jersey State Library. If we cannot provide material to you first through our PALS Plus consortium, we can try obtaining it through this statewide loan network.
Who can use it? Anyone can use it to search New Jersey libraries for holdings on books or other library material.
Who can request material? Clifton Library card holders can request materials through the Clifton Library (Main or Allwood) link. Any requests made on cards other than a Clifton Library 's will be rejected; please place requests with your home library.
What happens after I place my request? The requests will be reviewed by the interlibrary loan librarian.
-- If your library card is in good standing, your request will be forwarded to libraries that own the material. Depending on the availability of the requested material and the distance it's traveling, arrival time can be unpredictable. You will get a phone call when the material arrives at the Clifton Library.
-- If your library card is expired or has problems, the librarian will contact you to clear up such issues before forwarding the request.
How will I know the standing of my request? You can track your requests through the JerseyCat link. Click on the "My Account" tab near the top left of the screen and log in.
Can I renew my items?
At this time, the Library will not be renewing Interlibrary Loan materials obtained through JerseyCat. If you need your materials again, you can place another request.
* A special note regarding textbooks *
The Clifton Library kindly discourages Interlibrary Loan textbook requests. Most of the time, the textbooks are owned only by the schools and universities using them in their curriculum, which means they likely are not available for lending. In addition, we are unable to renew them or check them out for a whole semester. Please check with your school library for other options.
Any questions? Please call the Main Library and leave a message with the Reference Department. A Librarian will return your call.
